Everything I Needed From a Master’s in Finance

Hui (Vivienne) Zhi, MS Finance Graduate

Hui (Vivienne) Zhi, Class of 2020

FP&A Analyst, Titus Industrial

I’ve enjoyed these three years studying at UT Dallas and pursuing a double degree in MS in Finance and MS in Business Analytics. Initially, I moved across the country from Michigan to Texas for a job opportunity. After nearly two years of living and working in Texas, I fell in love with this state. Hence, I decided to pursue my master’s degree here — that’s how I found UT Dallas and the MS in Finance program.

The job market in the DFW area is growing rapidly, and the area was ranked No. 1 Best City for Jobs by Forbes in 2020. The job opportunities are always out there if you are ready with the necessary skill set.

Flexible Finance Program Curriculum

The MS in Finance program curriculum, with five concentrations and a large range of electives, I have all the flexibility to arrange study plans to achieve short-term and long-term career goals. I had the chance to learn from renowned finance professors in the Jindal School. Besides being my course instructors, they are more like mentors and friends and guide my study and career goals. The school also provides students with various activities, events, and workshops, great resources for making good friends and expanding your network.

The Perks of DFW

The job market in the DFW area is growing rapidly, and the area was ranked No. 1 Best City for Jobs by Forbes in 2020. The job opportunities are always out there if you are ready with the necessary skill set.

Plus, if you are an international student, you don’t have to worry about the food here; you will always find some good restaurants with authentic international food!

During this challenging time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has responded very quickly and has taken all the necessary ways to assist and calm students. I have seen professors and staff work long hours to help resolve students’ concerns and worries. It is the first time for all of us to get through such a hardship, but we are lucky to have such great faculty and staff always surround us to help!”

As a child, I grew up listening to dinner-table conversations between my father, uncle and grandfather, discussing strategies to expand our business and overcome financial hurdles along the way. This struck a spark in me to understand how business and finance work.
