Graduation Year: 2017

For several years, I was a working professional in the real estate industry with experience in appraisal, title, and mortgage. When I decided to go back to school, The University of Texas at Dallas was my first choice. What made it even more gratifying in choosing UTD, was when I discovered that they had a great Real Estate Program.

I was very fortunate to take a real estate course with the director, Dr. Guttery, who enlightened me and gave me a new drive and infatuation for real estate. After taking his course, I knew that had I made the right decision to leave the working world and further my education. I’ve attended a lot of schools, but I never met such great, knowledgeable, and experienced professors with exceptional backgrounds. There are great resources that are available to students, such as the Real Estate Club, the JSOM Career Center, and the professor’s guidance towards different scholarships, internships, and jobs.

My advice to future students who have little or even no interest in real estate is to expand your knowledge by learning something new by taking a real estate course as an elective. Even if it is something that you don’t see yourself doing in the future, you will gain a lot of valuable knowledge that you can apply in real life. Especially in the Dallas area, the real estate field is a growing industry with countless opportunities.

I reminisce those times where I was fixed on going to class and going back home. Nothing more, nothing less, but consciously knew that mentality had to change. Read More
