Program/Concentration MS in Finance – Real Estate Concentration

Job Title & Employer Analyst, MBD Real Estate at Goldman Sachs

The first day I entered the Jindal School of Management, I had no idea what to expect. Coming in as a transfer from The University of Texas at Austin during my sophomore year, it was rather discouraging, at first. I reminisce those times where I was fixed on going to class and going back home. Nothing more, nothing less, but consciously knew that mentality had to change.

During this transition phase of mine, I knew my interest was in real estate, but didn’t know how to expand on it. After a quick Google search, I got connected with the Real Estate Club and began to evolve out of my comfort zone. That was the turning point of my college career. I attended the first Real Estate Club meeting, then the second, then the third and so on . . . then fast forward two years later, became the President of the club. Being heavily engaged with the Real Estate Club unbolted an abundant amount of opportunities. I had the chance to sit in on a luncheon with the Mayor of Dallas during the Amazon HQ2 hunt to touring iconic real estate in the D/FW metroplex; all with like-minded students, who ultimately became friends post-graduation.

The real estate concentration and club go hand in hand, as the professors of the program are the backbones of the club. Being able to build that sole relationship with the professors of the real estate program is the optimum experience any student can ask for. The professors who teach within the program have real life case studies and experiences that make lectures inimitable and engaging for students.

Three pieces of advice I would give anyone who is wanting to join this program:

  • Get involved early – Join the club, meet the professors or take a class.
  • You get out only what you put in. Don’t expect more until you do more.
  • When you are young, work to learn, not to earn.

I graduated with a B.S. in Finance concentrating in real estate and am employed by Goldman Sachs, working in the real estate group within the Merchant Banking Division.
