The Real Estate Concentration offered at the Graduate and Undergraduate level is one of the best, if not, the best concentration to choose from. Aside from the transferability of skills and knowledge between different career paths in real estate. The program director along with the associate director and adjunct professors have copious years of experience in the industry that allows them to tailor their respective course material to single out the most beneficial topics for students. Their ability to bring in their personal expertise into class examples helps to learn new topics with ease by knowing that what they are teaching you will be helpful in practice not just in theory.
In my opinion, the most important courses I have taken within the Real Estate Concentration offered to Finance majors thus far are Real Estate Finance and Principles of Real Estate. Real Estate Finance alone provides such a great overview of the real estate field with an emphasis on asset valuation focusing on cash flow analysis. Which is probably the most important skill to have going into a real estate finance internship or analyst position.
Combined with the courses offered under the Real Estate Concentration, the most beneficial student organization to join is the Real Estate Club.
I would advise students taking a real estate course as an elective or following the concentration, to attend a Real Estate Club event. Not only because I sit on the student board for the club, but because as a member I was able to expand my network with fellow peers that share the same interests, connect with the professors outside of the classroom, and meet with professionals from all fields within real estate.
