I have been interested in real estate for the majority of my life now. I grew up in awe of my mother’s career as a broker. When it came time to pick a college, UT Dallas was my first choice because of its great reputation and high rankings. Soon after being admitted to the School of Management, the Herbert D. Weitzman Institute for Real Estate was established. When I heard the news, I immediately joined the real estate program, pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in real estate.
This was the best decision I have made in my college career. I have had the pleasure of being taught by industry experts such as Randall S. Guttery. I took Dr. Guttery’s Principles of Real Estate course during my freshman year, and it completely solidified my decision to make real estate my career. The real estate courses I have taken have taught me valuable knowledge that have applied directly to the internships I have had over the years. The courses within my concentration also apply to my real estate license requirements, which gives me a huge leg-up.
I became an officer in the UT Dallas Real Estate Club in my second year in the program. I recommend that everyone in the program join the club to take full advantage of what the program has to offer. The Real Estate Club has monthly club meetings as well as events throughout the school year. These meetings and events are rich in opportunity, as they make meeting countless industry professionals easy. Because of the Real Estate Club, I have gained an extremely valuable internship with LINC Commercial Realty, countless connections with industry professionals and UT Dallas Faculty, and relevant leadership experience.
Familiarizing yourself with real estate is valuable for every professional. My advice to students is to take the intro course even if your career doesn’t apply directly to real estate. You will gain remarkable insight into a field that is booming in the Dallas area.

For years, I had been wanting to return to school and focus on real estate studies. While spending the last decade in restaurants I dreamed of working in the real estate industry. I had no clue where to start but knew completing my bachelor’s would be the best launching pad. Looking at the regional options, the Jindal School of Management (JSOM) at UTD was by far the wisest choice for its national and global ranking. To top it off it came with the perks of being a public institution. Read More

The Real Estate Concentration offered at the Graduate and Undergraduate level is one of the best, if not, the best concentration to choose from. Aside from the transferability of skills and knowledge between different career paths in real estate. The program director along with the associate director and adjunct professors have copious years of experience in the industry that allows them to tailor their respective course material to single out the most beneficial topics for students. Their ability to bring in their personal expertise into class examples helps to learn new topics with ease by knowing that what they are teaching you will be helpful in practice not just in theory. Being a part of UTD’s Real Estate Program has been an eye-opening experience. My advice to anyone interested in the program is to join the Real Estate Club. The club first exposed me to the program and has not only allowed me to network with industry professionals but also taught me the fundamentals of both residential and multi-family real estate.
