Analyst, Goldman Sachs

Singh, who earned her finance degree at Jindal School, now is a Warehouse Asset Manager at Goldman Sachs and works as part of the Realty Management Division in Dallas. “My current job consists of working with consumer and student loan facilities to ensure loan management and assist with the lending business,” she says. She also assists the trading desk and bankers in New York City. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Singh worked for two years with GE Capital in its Commercial Leadership Program in Chicago and Wisconsin.

How has your finance degree impacted your career?

Being a finance major set me up for my current career but also has allowed me to see other careers within business. It has made me realize your major does not define who you are and what you will be best at in a career. Rather, your degree is an asset and part of your skillset.

What do you enjoy about your current position/profession?

I enjoy expanding my leadership skills and working with the brightest people from all over the U.S. and the world.

How do you see your profession changing in the next five or 10 years?

I am hoping to grow my own business or work more on something of my own. I would like to work more on the strategy side of a business.

What is a professional highlight of your career, either where you currently work or in the past?

At GE Capital, I was part of a leadership rotational program that forced me go outside of my comfort zone. It taught me how to quickly become an independent thinker. It was a great decision to be on that rotational program and learn as I moved around.

What is your favorite UT Dallas memory?

I participated in a Bollywood dance team and loved it! (Chalak Indian Dance Team, first started at UT Dallas in 2015, most recently placed second in a national collegiate competition among about 50 teams nationwide.)

What advice do you have for college students hoping to succeed professionally?

Do not limit yourself to your major. Really think outside the box and take your major to the next level as you look for jobs. NETWORK, network, NETWORK with anyone you can to gain experience and expertise.

What makes an effective leader?

Being a good leader means being a very good listener and not only using your own ideas but leveraging the ideas of others as well.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love to dance. I’ve also started a new hobby of blogging so currently that is where I’m focusing my personal time.
